Even though the official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is still a few months away, that is not going to stop the rumor mill or the leaks from coming. The new generation of foldable phones has a lot to prove, and based on what we are hearing about the upcoming foldable, things are looking great going forward.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 could be Samsung's most durable foldable

Based on a new rumor, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will come with some form of dust protection. This is going to happen thanks to Samsung's new waterdrop hinge that should make it easier for the company to offer protection against dust. The Galaxy Z phones are already IPX8 rated, and having dust protection will just make the phones even better.

But how does the waterdrop hinge work in the first place? Well, the new hinge design will allow the phone to be folded completely flat with no gap in between. Which will automatically prevent the dust particles from entering, in addition to providing a thinner, more durable design. However, at the time of writing, we do not know how the waterdrop hinge works and will have to wait for the phones to come out later this year.

in addition to the ingress protection, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 is also said to be lighter than the predecessor. Which is a great thing as foldable phones, especially from Samsung, are known to be heavier than usual offerings, which is an understandable downside considering the parts that are used in the device.

At the time of writing, very little is known about the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5, but we do know that this new waterdrop hinge should revolutionize these new foldable phones and hopefully, will give us something more durable than the past generation of foldable phones. If the company manages to pull this off, it will signal all the potential buyers to go for foldable phones once again, especially if they have been holding off until now.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is shaping up to be an excellent phone even if it will not have an in-built S Pen. Here is hoping Samsung finally manages to solve the woes of foldable smartphones and creates something that easily bests the competition.
