Review GeekThe Rubik’s Cube is one of the most recognizable and iconic toys to ever grace this planet and definitely something we all enjoyed tinkering around with at some point. So you bet your butt we’re excited about Casio’s new G-Shock watch, which is inspired by the beloved cube.
The watch takes Casio’s sleek and clean GAE-2100 RC-1AER digital watch body and gives it a facelift with Rubik’s colorful blocky analog-digital display. It also sports two interchangeable bezels—with both a black and white option to choose from–along with a mineral glass lens and a battery that’ll last you approximately three years before needing to be replaced.
Of course, the watch also sports all of the standard features you’d expect a watch like this to have, like a stopwatch, a countdown timer, alarms, dual time, and world time. It rocks Casio’s classic durable design, including the Carbon Core Guard that keeps the watch’s internal bits safe from vibrations and impacts. The slim design of its case and stylish octagonal bezel will make the watch pop against any outfits you wear, too.
This isn’t Casio’s first retro-inspired watch, though. The brand has also created awesome and occasionally geeky designs, like this collaboration with the vintage video game Pac-Man. The company’s also added a Wear OS smartwatch to its G-Shock line, (giving us a smartwatch with both a rugged design and lots of the great modern features we love.
Casio’s Rubik’s Cube watch will be available starting on February 9 at the G-Shock Flagship Store on Carnaby Street in London, along with a select few third-party retailers elsewhere. It’s priced at £139, which equals out to about $187. Those who purchase their watch from the Flagship store will also get a themed Rubik’s Cube thrown in.
