New 24-inch M3 iMac to Launch in 2024 as Apple Entirely Skips M2 Generation of Chips for The Machine

WccftechApple's M3 chip was initially rumored to arrive this year with upgraded performance capabilities for the MacBook Air lineup. However, recent rumors claim that the launch has been pushed back to 2024. The company may update its MacBook Air and high-end MacBook Pro models together. Apple has not updated the 24-inch iMac with the latest internals as of yet. While Apple is preparing to launch the M3 chip for future Macs, the 24-inch iMac still comes with an M1 chip.
Apple to launch 24-inch iMac in 2024, potentially with an M3 chip
It is now being reported that the company has been working on a new model of the 24-inch iMac with upgraded internals. The news was shared by industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, stating that Apple will launch the 24-inch iMac in 2024. To this remark, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg responded that the 24-inch iMac has been in the works for a long time. While Kuo did not mention the chip that will be powering the machine, Gurman speculates that it will house an M3 chip.
If Apple gives ahead with the M3 chip for the 24-inch iMac, it will skip one complete series of the Apple Silicon upgrade. However, the M3 chip for the 24-inch iMac will be more than a welcome addition since it is a full-fledged desktop rather than a MacBook. What this means is that the company could offer upgraded performance with the M3 chip on the iMac as there are no power constraints.

Apple's new M3 chip is fabricated on TSMC's 3nm process which is designed to deliver enhanced computational and graphical performance. Additionally, the chip also consumes less power which is a valuable element for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models. It was previously rumored that Apple is planning to launch the 24-inch iMac with an M2 and M2 Pro chip. However, it appears that this will not be the case as Apple plans to close the M2 chapter for the Macs.
Apple is expected to announce new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips next year. While the exact date is not known at this point, we suspect that the new Macs will arrive between the Spring and the Summer time frame. Potentially, the company could see fit to announce the 24-inch M3 iMac alongside the new MacBook models. We will share more details on the launch of new Macs as soon as further details are available.
